Synopsis

"Who Am I?" is a 15 minute documentary film about generational trauma, cultural identity, and the search for ones self. My mother was the first of her clan to join in the South Sudanese rebellion. This set off a chain of events that led her to flee to Kenya where she took on multiple jobs from pre-school teacher to UN interpreter. My family was eventually granted immigration status to Canada where we have lived for the past 16 years. During those years I would find myself struggling between my two worlds, discovering where I came from while learning to live where I am. The journey of finding who we want to be requires us to know where we are from. I’ve felt lost for years and throughout trying to find myself I found my mother. This is our story.
