Stump Kitchen: Cooking For the Heart
We're diving stump deep into how cooking heals, supports and nurtures professional chefs, home cooks and the community.
Feed your soul with Alexis Hillyard, creator of YouTube show Stump Kitchen, as she celebrates the unique ways we move through the world and explores how cooking heals with 6 of Edmonton’s professional chefs. You’ve watched her use her stump in all kinds of cool ways to create delicious vegan and gluten-free recipes. Now she’s going to spread that joy and dive deeper into the heart of her passion for cooking while hearing the stories - and learning the techniques - of local pros. What drives them to cook? How did they find their passion? How does cooking heal, support, and allow them to thrive? Watch as Alexis learns a thing or two about professional chef life, and as she teaches these chefs a thing or two about cooking with her stump, self-love, and always finding a reason to laugh.
If you've ever been to Padmanadi, you first of all know how incredible the food is, but you've also experienced the incredible atmosphere and community Kasim and his team have created with the restaurant. In a lot of ways, Padmanadi feels like one giant family, and this is in great portion due to Kasim and his amazing heart. He does so much community outreach of his own, in Edmonton and worldwide, and we know he'll have so much to share with us on the show.
The Nook's mission statements centre on community, integrity, inclusivity, and creativity. Need we say more?! Freshly opened in Edmonton, Lynsae will have lots to share about her journey to building and running The Nook with her mother, Marnie. The cafe also have a vegan and gluten-free French toast recipe on their menu created by our very own Alexis Hillyard!
The Naidoo family has been embarking on journeys shared with loved ones for generations, and Narayanni's is one of those journeys. Daya will no doubt have a story to share about coming to Canada in the 1980s with his partner and two daughters and opening a restaurant (or two) together. These are the types of stories that are the driving force behind Stump Kitchen: Cooking For the Heart.
Family and food are tightly connected for Chef Steve, and seeing as he's the chef at Chartier, which was opened with the help of a Kickstarter campaign, he's no stranger to the strength of community! Steve has a wide variety of experience in a number of cities, and "can't/won't" aren't in his vocabulary, so we think he'd be the perfect companion for some stump-tastic kitchen adventures with Alexis.
