Synopsis

We all have our own power struggle within ourselves; sometimes the struggle between darkness and light in the brain is too real. HENNA is an experimental short film symbolizing the struggle between darkness and light inside one women’s mind. Using the symbol of Indian Henna, traditionally representing life and light, we explore a deep struggle of darkness and death. One wrong step towards the darkness means we can lose the light forever. When darkness is the only way out, which side will you chose?

Are you comfortable? Don't expect to stay that way. Watch as we transform a regular house environment into a new dimension with the help of lights, fog, and camera tricks. Darkness can consume any space, including your own home.
The intricate art of Indian Henna is woven throughout our film. We're embracing this beautiful art, but we are putting our own unique spin on this beauty. Instead of the traditional meaning of new life, Henna becomes it's own character within the forces of darkness. How can something so beautiful become so dangerous? Will it have the power to take over?
The use of soft lighting and hues create an eerie experience, complimenting the drastic movements in the battle against darkness.
There is always light in the darkness, you just need to know where to look for it. Candles play an essential role in Henna. They are symbolic of hope, though hope is not always possible to hold onto. When there isn't a flicker of a flame in sight, would you cross into the darkness?
Strong images are so incredibly important in this experimental short. With only ambient noise as our sound design, we focus on movement and symbols to tell the story. Our simplistic but symbolic production design makes you think deeper about life and your own inner struggles.
