In a desperate attempt to reconnect with her ex boyfriend, Angela surprises him at a Tofino beach where he surfs every day. She is determined to overcome her fear of water, learn to surf and win him back in the process.
A women tries to reconnect with her ex by taking a surf lesson, but ends up learning how to move on in life instead.
Angela is a big-city installation artist and single mom to nine-year-old Celeste. She has a vivid dream in which her ex-husband Connor is drowning, and decides that she must save him. She books the first flight out to Tofino. There, Celeste, Angela, and Danny, her sassy personal assistant, head to the beach for a surfing lesson. Angela is afraid of the water, but believes that she must overcome this if she is to serve her purpose and reconnect with Connor. Things become complicated when Charlotte, the instructor, arrives. She happens to be Connor's beautiful new girlfriend. Stubborn and impatient, Angela abandons the lesson and plunges into the ocean with her board. A near-death experience in the water forces her to surrender the past and open her heart to what life will bring.
Many of the folks on our incredible team joined forces last year to create the short Mi Madre, My Father. We make good movies, and this one will be no exception! We may be seeking some talented grips, electrics and a sound designer.
HANNAH is not just Angela’s art broker she is a friend. Hannah took a shot on the wild and unknown Angela when she first arrived in Canada from Bogota- and it has paid off in spades. Hannah is furious when she discovers Angela has skipped out on a meeting with a lucrative art investor to go and chase after her ex husband in Tofino. Hannah will be played by Fiona Vroom- project lead, Co-writer and Producer. Fiona has recently Produced “Mi Madre, My Father” (short), “Dance with the Demon” (short) and “True Heroines” (web series).
ANGELA loves, lives and creates her art with passion and intensity. If you are part of Angela’s life you have to sit back and enjoy the ride because she is in control. A deep believer in mysticism, spirituality, fate and dreams. She was never fully able to recover from the breakup with her husband Connor- and when she dreams that he is drowning- she feels this is a sign that she must save him! Played by Chilean-Canadian actress Michelle Morgan. Michelle is best known as Lou Flemming from the hit CBC drama “Heartland”. Michelle has recently directed the short film “Mi Madre, My Father”.
DANNY is Angela’s lifeline when her marriage falls apart. Danny manages Angela’s insane schedule as an in demand installation artist. Danny is not impressed when Angela drags him out to Tofino- it’s not only that he doesn’t want to break one of his bejewelled nails- Danny is concerned that Angela is making a mistake trying to reconnect with Connor. Danny will be played by Ottawa based actor Samnang Tep (pictured top of page). “Sammie” has cut his teeth as an incredible drag performer- slaying stages across Canada under the moniker Jade London.
CHARLOTTE -Angela arrives on the beach for her first surf lesson and is shocked to find that her instructor is none other then Charlotte- the new love in Connor's life. At first glance Charlotte seems perfect- kind, strong, a talented athlete- but she will admit to struggling with mental health and finding solace in surfing. Angela can't help but bond with Charlotte, despite her initial intentions to despise her.
Celeste is thrilled when her Mother Angela finally takes them to visit her Dad in Tofino. Only 9 years old and already experimenting with her own gender identity- Celeste wears her hair in corn rows and considers herself a tom0boy. Celeste will be played by rising star Lina Renna (pictured top of page). Lina played the lead role in the short film created by Michelle Morgan and Fiona Vroom- "Mi Madre, My Daughter"
