STORYHIVE is a proud western Canadian organization that is dedicated to supporting emerging filmmakers and artists in creating content that reflects the diversity and uniqueness of local communities.

One of the main reasons that STORYHIVE believes in the importance of authentic local storytelling and representation is because it helps to foster a sense of belonging and connection within communities. When people see their own experiences, cultures and stories reflected on screen, they feel seen and recognized. This can be especially important for underrepresented groups who may not often have the opportunity to have their voices heard.

STORYHIVE is proud to have created a number of focused programs such as the Female Directors Edition, Black Creators and two Indigenous Storytellers editions, as well as funding a number of underrepresented content creators through our other STORYHIVE programs. Our programs provide different platforms for content creation to increase visibility of various communities while creating a sense of community and support.

In addition to promoting a sense of belonging, authentic local storytelling also helps to preserve and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of a community. By sharing stories that are specific to a particular place or group, we are able to learn about and appreciate the unique traditions, customs, and history that make that community special.

Furthermore, authentic local storytelling can also serve as a source of inspiration and empowerment for those within the community. Seeing someone from the same background or place succeed in the creative industry can be a powerful motivator for others to pursue their own dreams and passions.

Overall, STORYHIVE recognizes the crucial role that authentic local storytelling and representation play in building strong, vibrant communities. By supporting and promoting the stories of local artists, content creators and filmmakers, we are helping to create a more inclusive and diverse media landscape that reflects the richness and diversity of Canada.
