STORYHIVE hosted a conversation with Wesley Chan, Co-Founder of Wong Fu Productions and Natasha Jung, Founder and CEO of Cold Tea Collective. The two talked about the drive behind Wong Fu’s storytelling over the past two decades and advice for new and emerging Pan-Asian filmmakers.

From reflecting on the creative process, maintaining motivation to redefining success, we've distilled five takeaways from their conversation.

1. Your perspective matters and your voice is unique.

“When you're physically coming from a different place, you have a lens that no one else does. See that as a strength and as your most valuable asset and secret weapon that provides you with a viewpoint that is completely unique to you." - Wesley Chan

2. Make connections anywhere you can.

“Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation and ask people what they're working on, and share what you're working on, too. [Find out] the types of content and stories that you're looking to tell.” - Natasha Jung

3. Find your people.

"Find [a] community that is supportive and can relate to you, and you can express all your frustrations or discouragement to. Find an outlet where you can let that all out." - Wesley Chan

4. Stories find connection.

“The best stories find connection. Anytime you share a story, you’re sharing a perspective. The best stories will find the connection either through how much you see yourself or how much you don’t see yourself in that story. The most valuable thing I can share is my perspective, and that’s the same for anyone that is part of TELUS STORYHIVE.” - Wesley Chan

5. Learn to trust your instincts.

"If you feel ready, trust that. Don’t second-guess it. And if there’s time left over, unplug, rest.” - Wesley Chan
