Hello again! It’s Emily Weldon here, Marketing Manager at TELUS STORYHIVE.

I’m honoured to share with you how Revelstoke locals can take part in an evening of storytelling and connection as the Perspectives Film Night returns for its annual celebration of mountain culture, featuring a breathtaking new short documentary supported by TELUS STORYHIVE.

On November 14, the Perspectives Film Night puts storytelling from alternative perspectives in focus. Now in its 4th year, the community-made mountain film screening series aims to encourage and promote inclusive mountain culture. This evening will spotlight narratives of resilience, identity, and belonging from filmmakers across mountain communities, from the Arctic and Alaska to the Alps.

The event will screen four short films, including Beauty in a Fall, directed by Nat Segal. In this film, Revelstoke mountain guide Julianna Howatt embarks on her toughest adventure yet as she seeks to embrace her true identity as a trans woman following a debilitating struggle with PTSD.

After having taken a step back from her role in the mountain community, the film follows Julianna as she prepares to share her story and use her experience to advocate for an inclusive future for the mountain guiding industry.

The evening will culminate in a panel discussion, featuring filmmakers and cast from many of the projects showcased, including Julianna Howatt herself.

Nat Segal remarks on why screening this film in her hometown is so special to her:

“I am incredibly excited to share the event in Revelstoke, as that is where much of the film was shot and the community where many of the cast, film crew and I live. [...] Bringing our community together to watch a film about Julianna's story, followed by a panel with her, other cast and filmmakers, is an amazing opportunity to not only share new perspectives on these issues but also discuss them together as a community. It is our hope that Julianna's journey of healing will parallel a deeper story of understanding and openness in our community and beyond.”

Doors open at 6:00pm and the show begins at 6:30pm on November 14. Tickets are $22 and profits from the event will be redirected to collaborating non-profits supporting the Film Night, including Open Mountains Project and Indigenous Friendship Society of Revelstoke
