Hello again! It’s Emily Weldon here, Marketing Manager at TELUS STORYHIVE. How lucky I am to be able to help amplify community events produced by our content creators across B.C. and Alberta! I’m writing once again to tell you about a screening of two impactful made-in-Terrace TELUS STORYHIVE documentaries that locals will not want to miss.

The filmmakers behind The Resonance Project invite their community to explore two distinct and uniquely important topics with them: the Northern B.C. Music Scene and the practice of Wolf Culling in the area, through the screening of two insightful new short documentaries, Small Town Big Sound and What’s Up with the Wolf Cull? On October 3rd, join STORYHIVE filmmakers Tyler Meers and Jaylene Matthews at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre as they invite Terrace to learn, listen and connect with them around purpose-driven and essential themes of community music heritage and environmental protection.

In addition to the films, guests can look forward to a delightful evening of community discussion during networking breaks and explore community resources where they can get involved or learn more about the films’ topics after the show. Plus, prizes donated by community vendors are up for grabs, including gift baskets, gift cards, swag and even a brand new guitar.

From learning about what Tyler and Jaylene have planned for their community, I’m most excited about the local dialogue that will emerge from this platform. This event promises opportunities for new connections to be made across the community, and a chance for documentary film to do what it does best: spark engagement and action. It’s sure to be a thoughtful and energized gathering where STORYHIVE filmmakers can bring their work directly to their intended audiences, and create space for contemplation, inquiry and—as the organizers put it best themselves—resonance.

Event host and STORYHIVE filmmaker Tyler Meers remarks on what excites him most about bringing his community together for this event:

“I'm deeply grateful to TELUS STORYHIVE for the grant that made this documentary possible. After a year and a half of hard work, it’s thrilling to see this project come to fruition and to share it with the community. While this film captures the power of music to unite us, I hope to inspire others along the way and bring hope and a fresh perspective to those who might need it. I’m also excited about opening my photo studio and connecting with other local creatives.”

The event starts at 7:00pm on October 3, and tickets are $10. Proceeds from ticket sales will be reinvested in supporting the costs of hosting future in-person screenings of the projects in Terrace.

Small Town, Big Sound and What’s Up with the Wolf Cull? were funded in the TELUS STORYHIVE Anniversary Documentary Edition and will be available to watch on TELUS Optik TV Video on Demand channel 9 and Stream+ starting December 2, 2025.

Small Town, Big Sound is a heartfelt documentary that follows a young man as he returns to the area where he grew up after being away for years. As he adjusts to small-town life, he finds solace in the music scene. Through interviewing musicians and locals, it showcases the unique ways people make a living and shape their art and lifestyle around the wonder of their surroundings. With visuals and touching stories, it is a tribute to the power of homecoming and the nature of the creative spirit.

What’s Up with the Wolf Cull explores B.C.’s decision to extend its controversial wolf reduction program for another five years, targeting five regions, including the Skeena Valley. Widely criticized and accused of cruelty, the cull remains deeply divisive. This program examines its impact on the region through the perspectives of local officials, stakeholders, wildlife experts and Indigenous knowledge keepers. Should the residents of Terrace and the Skeena have a voice in shaping the future of their wolves?
