Project Spotlights
Ice & Iron | Grande Prairie, Alberta | Project Lead: Darryl Haugen
Originally created as an excuse to ride year-round, the Numb Bum is a 24-hour motorcycle endurance ice race that began on Clairmont Lake in 1985 as a fundraiser for a local children's summer camp in Grande Prairie, Alberta. After decades of migration throughout Alberta, this iconic race at last returns to its place of origin, passed onto the Wapiti Off-Road Association to continue on the legacy that is the Numb Bum.
DisABLEd | Calgary, Alberta | Project Lead: Paolo Oliveros
A compelling documentary about redefining disability through art and storytelling. Led by photographer Lionel Migrino and journalist Sarah Harrower, the film dives into their human experiences and journey. Through Lionel’s stunning portraits, everyone’s narrative unfolds, revealing personal strength, resilience and a unique window into a more personal world of disability in Calgary.
The Artist: A Creative Journey | Edmonton, Alberta | Project Lead: Anne Mueller
A behind-the-scenes look at Edmonton educator and filmmaker Anne Mueller finds connections between the arts and positive mental health. Anne speaks with Canadian artists: Tyler Shaw, a multi-platinum selling recording artist, music producer and actor; Alixandra Jade, a muralist; Martin Kerr, an award-winning singer/songwriter and Paige Elson, a gifted dancer, as they share their personal stories and inspiring talents with the world.
Sea to Land: Bridging Communities | Cowichan Bay, B.C. | Project Lead: Michelle Tremblay
This documentary looks at Vancouver Island's first Community Supported Fishery (CSF), following the life of a West Coast fisherman and seeing how he works to have a positive impact on the marine environment that sustains him. The CSF is a way to reduce the carbon footprint of his catch, increase local food security and counteract climate change. The film weaves together scientists, researchers, community members and fishers of the B.C. coast.
Save-on-Meats | Vancouver, B.C. | Project Lead: Jaeger Mah
In the late 1950s, downtown East Hastings street was the heart of Vancouver's social scene, and $AVE ON MEATS was the newest butcher on the block. The shop featured the brightest neon signage and the largest meat counter...but there were no customers. Overworked and frustrated, the shop owner took a vacation. Young Al DesLauries seized the helm and made a decision that served more than $AVINGS.
Please join us in congratulating all of these filmmakers on social media! We’re on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn and the YouTube Community Tab.
