VidCon Anaheim 2024 took place at the end of June, and while I meant to write a post about it sooner, I haven't had a chance until now. I’m thrilled to reflect on another successful VidCon, the biggest convention for online content creators, which I attended with Jennifer Park, Manager of TELUS STORYHIVE and Community Content.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been immersed in reading everyone’s VidCon highlight posts on LinkedIn and watching a number of YouTube review and highlight videos, and I must say, I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a remarkable event.

One of the aspects I value most about VidCon is the opportunity to connect with so many extremely talented content creators and industry experts. The insights and knowledge shared by these experts are invaluable, providing me with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that I can bring back to the TELUS STORYHIVE team. Engaging with these thought leaders not only inspires me but also equips us with the tools and strategies needed to stay ahead in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

Here are my top 5 highlights from VidCon Anaheim 2024, particularly from the industry track:

1. Innovative Content Creation Strategies

The industry track sessions this year were packed with insights on the latest content creation strategies. From leveraging AI tools to enhance storytelling and prioritizing transparency and being genuine and clear about its origins, to finding your niche, to mastering short-form video content and the importance of distributing your content across multiple platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. The sessions provided invaluable takeaways for content creators at all levels.

2. Mental Health and Well-being

A significant focus was placed on mental health and well-being within the industry. Panels and workshops addressed the unique challenges content creators face, offering practical advice and resources to help maintain a healthy work-life balance. Helpful suggestions included prioritizing self-care routines such as exercise, meditation, hobbies, time with friends & family and adequate sleep. Take regular breaks throughout the day to rest and recharge. This can include short breaks during work hours and longer breaks, such as vacations, to prevent burnout

3. Community Building and Engagement

Building and engaging with communities was another hot topic. Sessions explored innovative ways to foster genuine connections with audiences, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and interaction in growing a loyal fan base. It is essential to remain true to oneself and share only what one is comfortable with, as audiences can easily discern when authenticity is lacking. Remember your community engages with you because it is you and not someone else.

4. Diversity and Inclusion

The industry track also highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusion in content creation. Panels featured diverse voices and perspectives, discussing how to create more inclusive content and the impact it has on reaching broader audiences.

5. Future of Digital Media

Finally, the discussions on the future of digital media were both inspiring and thought-provoking. Emerging platforms such as YouTube Shorts and TikTok are revolutionizing the way content is consumed, offering new opportunities for creators to engage with audiences in innovative ways from short to long form content. Additionally, the rise of platforms like Clubhouse are reshaping the landscape of digital interaction, emphasizing audio content and real-time engagement. These insights provided a glimpse into what the future holds for content creators, from the small screen to the big screen.

Reflecting on the three immensely valuable days at VidCon Anaheim 2024, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to engage with successful content creators and to learn from so many industry leading experts. The experience was truly memorable, and I am excited to share the insights and knowledge gained with the TELUS STORYHIVE team so that we can continue to keep up with the latest trends and focus on supporting our community of content creators.

Stay tuned for our upcoming program intake windows coming at the end of 2024 at STORYHIVE.com and @STORYHIVE on our social media channels.

I look forward to seeing what VidCon has in store for us next year!
