Tim Caulfield investigates a rare disease, laying bare its unnerving nexus of spirituality, neurology and psychiatry.
What if one day your child suddenly begins to exhibit symptoms not too unlike something out of a horror movie? Timothy Caulfield—Canada’s official pseudoscience debunker and host of the Netflix hit "A User’s Guide to Cheating Death"—dives into the real science behind the rare and just recently discovered disease Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis. THE NEW EXORCISTS will not only shine a light on the disease's disturbing history -- the likes of which nightmares and horror movies are made of -- but it will also address how advocating for one’s own health can be critical for recovery, especially when dealing with rare or complicated illnesses.
The principal filmmakers are backed by network of in-demand professionals committed to integrity, authenticity and highest possible production values. Looking forward to sharing this incredible story!
So excited to introduce you to Tim Caulfield. You may already know him as the host of "A User’s Guide to Cheating Death," (on Netflix) and author of the book, "Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong about Everything?" Tim is a lawyer, professor and bioethicist, and the Canada Research Chair in Health Law and Public Policy at the University of Alberta.
Lucia is a dear friend and survivor of Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis. We are so honoured to have her share her harrowing story or, 'journey into madness', as she calls it.
Along with an interview with Dr. Dalmau, (the doctor who actually discovered Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis), and religious scholar Dr. Alan Levinovitz (Associate Professor of Religion at James Madison University) we are excited to bring to the screen the stories of other survivors and their caregivers. These will of course include Lucia's parents: Yanet Valdez (MSc, PhD. Immunology, Pathogenesis, Infectious Diseases, Microbiology) and Kelly McNagny (PhD. Professor of Medical Genetics, University of British Columbia; Immunology, Inflammation, Hematology, Cancer Therapeutics).
Analytics of our extended trailer video on our facebook page NewExorcistsMovie (over 6.2K views) show that our target audience is predominantly female aged 25-55. This is in-line with our expectations, but we will follow up by collecting further analytics to craft a targeted Facebook ad campaign.
We will optimize meta-data/SEO and run a social media contest to encourage fans to share their stories. We will also produce a "Host Screening Guide." This guide will be made available as a PDF so that hosts can be armed with supplementary materials, (links, community resources, less visually interesting scientific details) and can facilitate screenings in their homes or workplaces.
Timothy Caulfield has 43.3K followers on Twitter and his show "Users Guide" has a strong following on Facebook as well. His involvement will exponentially increase our visibility. In addition, our other subjects have access to optimally targeted networks via email lists (more than 10,000 subscribers each). To take advantage of this we will create targeted "newsletter" blasts, thus informing subscribers while disseminating screening information, relevant links, etc.
