Explore the beauty and wonder of flight through the eyes of pilots who believe in the true spirit of aviation.
Soaring on metal wings, exploring the far reaches of the open sky, pilots live with a love for flight that is core to their being. This documentary series will explore that passion, and the true spirit behind the world of aviation. The pilot episode will act as a portal into the community of aviation in BC, exploring the landscape as we fly across the province, seeking stories that inspire the passion to fly. This road will ultimately lead to Kelowna BC, for the launch of Give Hope Wings, a 20’000 mile flight circumnavigating central and south America to raise funds for Hope Air, a national charity that arranges free flights for Canadians in need of health care far from home. This event sets off the series, with the spirit of aviation as an anchor for every story told.
Meet the team behind More Than Wings: a passionate group of people willing to pour their heart into a project to achieve beautiful results with authenticity.
Dave learned to fly in Cranbrook in the heart of the Canadian Rockies and has flown more than 3300 hours in 29 different aircraft types. In 2014 Dave flew a Piper Comanche around the world, raising more than $150,000 for two charities: SickKids Foundation of Toronto and Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance of Perth, Scotland. Dave is one of the three pilots who comprise Give Hope Wings, and currently lives in Kelowna BC.
The series begins with the first flight of a person who is passionate about aviation but has never been for a flight in a small airplane. A dream fulfilled, this introductory flight will be a perfect introduction to the world of aviation.
Jessica has been involved with aviation for nearly her whole life, she earned private pilot licence at age 18 in 2011, and in spring 2016 graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from SFU in Mechatronic Systems Engineering. She is currently pursuing her P.Eng, working as an engineer-in-training (EIT) in Controls Engineering. Ever since she began flying, Jessica has been passionate about inspiring other young aviators to reach for their dreams in the realm of aviation.
The aviation community is passionate and supportive. In the community of general aviation in BC alone there is a strong support of all that celebrates the wonder of flight, and pilots are quick to help others who are driven to share aviation with others in an authentic way.
Another mission of this project is to inspire. Particularly to inspire the next generation of pilots to pursue their dreams, and believe that seemingly impossible goals are achievable, that a positive passion can lift your spirit, and change your life for the better.
It isn't a secret that aviation has a gender gap that exists to this day. Only roughly 5% of pilots who fly commercially in Canada are women. This series will highlight the female pilots who have excelled in all areas of aviation, and young students who have just begun their journey, in the hopes of inspiring others to pursue their passion unafraid and uninhibited.
