STORYHIVE acknowledges that the area in which our staff predominantly gather and work is within the unceded Indigenous territories belonging to the sḵwx̱w 7mesh (Squamish), sel̓l̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) peoples. We acknowledge that many Indigenous communities and cultures survive on the land where we work, live, and play. We recognize that Indigenous peoples have been deeply harmed by Canada's past and present colonial institutions, and we will strive to understand our individual place within this painful history. In our work together, we will take conscious steps to include Indigenous people in decision-making processes and address structural inequities in the Canadian screen-based production sector.

In the fall of 2018, after consultation with the Indigenous film community, STORYHIVE launched its inaugural Indigenous Storyteller Edition with a commitment to provide 30 production grants plus mentorship and distribution on TELUS platforms to Indigenous storytellers. Funded projects were selected by an all Indigenous selection committee comprised of experienced Indigenous filmmakers. In partnership with the National Screen Institute, each emerging creator was mentored by an experienced filmmaker throughout production. We are grateful to everyone who advised us and participated in the inaugural Edition.

As part of our ongoing commitment to decolonization as an organization, Team STORYHIVE is excited to announce the new 2022 Indigenous Storyteller Edition. To build on the success of the first Indigenous Storyteller Edition, STORYHIVE solicited feedback from the creators and mentors who participated in the first edition and incorporated their recommendations into the design of this new edition.

With the 2022 Indigenous Storyteller Edition, STORYHIVE will provide $20,000 grants along with training, mentorship and distribution on TELUS platforms to 30 emerging Indigenous creators in BC and Alberta. For more information on the training and mentorship provided, please check out our FAQs. Additionally, the Indigenous Screen Office and Creative BC will be providing top up funding to each selected project. Like the first edition, the 2022 Indigenous Storyteller Edition will be guided by an Indigenous Advisory & Selection Committee comprised of experienced Indigenous filmmakers. Additionally, this committee will be supported by Indigenous TELUS team members and external Indigenous moderators who will review all submissions.

For the STORYHIVE 2022 Indigenous Storyteller Edition  (the “STORYHIVE Edition”), each Indigenous-led screen-based Project will consist of a locally reflective fiction or nonfiction Main Program (minimum 10 minutes) and a Supplementary Program (minimum 30 minutes). For more information on the Main Program and Supplementary Program, please see our FAQs.  This is a chance to tell a story you are passionate about and retain the intellectual property rights to your produced work.

SUBMISSION RULES

BY REGISTERING TO SUBMIT A PITCH FOR A PROPOSED PROJECT FOR CONSIDERATION (KNOWN ALSO HEREIN AS A SUBMISSION), YOU HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS (the "Terms").

TELUS has developed a digital funding platform called "STORYHIVE" to provide grants and distribution to local content creators, and support the creation of locally-produced programming available on TELUS Optik TV On Demand (via TELUS  STORYHIVE / TELUS Community Television).

In order to qualify, each participant (a “Project Lead”) must create and submit materials comprising a multimedia submission (a “Submission”) which contains, among other things, a pitch for a locally reflective digital short plus supplementary content (a “Project”) to be made by the participant. Following the process of Submission, Moderation and Selection by an all-Indigenous Selection Committee, a Project Lead could then be eligible to receive one of 30 available $20,000 grants (each, a “Grant"), (available to eligible BC and Alberta residents only) from TELUS plus $3000 in top up funding from the Indigenous Screen Office and Creative BC, to produce their proposed Project. Each of the 30 successful Projects will also receive distribution on select TELUS platforms, and the producing teams will receive mentorship and training. Project Leads will retain the rights, including copyright, to their finished Projects.

STORYHIVE will begin accepting Submissions for the STORYHIVE Edition on June 1, 2022 at 12:00pm (NOON) Pacific Time (PT). The deadline for Submissions is 12:00am (MIDNIGHT) PT on June 28, 2022.  Each of the 30 Project Leads who are selected to receive a Grant will be required to sign the TELUS STORYHIVE Community Access License Agreement (the “TELUS Grant Agreement'').
